(setq erc-hide-list '("JOIN" "PART" "QUIT"))
See also ErcChannelTracking for how to disable modeline notifications.
Use the /IGNORE nick command to ignore a nick for this session. Since nothing gets set, next time you will see messages from this nick again.
You need to customize
‘erc-ignore-list’, or set it as follows:
(setq erc-ignore-list '("kensanata"))
The list contains regular expressions which are matched against “nick!login@host”, so you might also set it as follows:
(setq erc-ignore-list '("^j[a-z]*bot!" "^fussbot!" "^shorten!"))
If you use BitlBee or another jabber to irc gateway and are on Google+, you might want to ignore the “all of the people in my circles” presence:
(setq erc-ignore-list '("*@public.talk.google.com"))
Got the idea from X-Chat, conference mode disables joins, parts and quits in channels where it’s turned on. Unfortunately it doesn’t work, i think because functions somewhere don’t respect the buffer local setting of ERC-HIDE-LIST, or maybe it’s just my ERC that’s old, I’ll investigate later. :-) (Join ignore works.) Sometimes people start playing with bots until it gets on your nerves. Here is how to stop it. You can ignore the bots themselves using erc-ignore-list, but you need something else to ignore the bot commands.
(defcustom erc-foolish-content '("^<.*?> \\?" "^<.*?> , *rr" "\\*CLICK\\*" "\\*BANG\\*") "Regular expressions to identify foolish content. Usually what happens is that you add the bots to `erc-ignore-list' and the bot commands to this list." :group 'erc :type '(repeat regexp))
(defun erc-foolish-content (msg) "Check whether MSG is foolish." (erc-list-match erc-foolish-content msg))
(add-hook 'erc-insert-pre-hook (lambda (s) (when (erc-foolish-content s) (setq erc-insert-this nil))))
