Rsync repository

A cron job synchronizes the EmacsWiki setup to a machine that zeus is running. You can use rsync to get copies from there. Note that the setup does not contain files that can be read as-is. You will need a webserver and Oddmuse to read them!

List what’s available:

    rsync theshire.emacs.cl::

Here’s how to get or update a copy into the emacswiki directory:

    rsync -avz --no-perms theshire.emacs.cl::emacswiki emacswiki

Alternatively, get a copy of the raw text files via the SVN repository. Or if you’re just interested in source files, get them via the CVS repository.

Sources for this stuff: backup shell script.

What will you get?

You will get the files you need to run your own copy of the wiki. Actually getting the wiki to run is going to require some Oddmuse and webserver experience.

cgi-bin
The cgi-bin directory
emacs
The Oddmuse data directory
bin
Various scripts for cron jobs and the like
*
The remainig files are things to put into your htdocs directory: .htaccess, some HTML, logos…

The current setup assumes that you put this directory in your htdocs because some of the cron jobs will create RSS files in the data directory and the .htaccess file will rewrite some requests to access them. If you want to get all aspects of the system running, you’ll need to investigate the various bits and pieces.

Unfortunately it is not possible to download the files via rsync from emacswiki.org directly. The hosting provider told me that rsync had too many security problems in the past. That’s why we’re using a separate rsync repository.
