About

Cell-mode is a system for interactively developing custom applications within GNU Emacs. Cell-mode embeds arbitrary code, data, and user interface elements into a grid of cells much like a SpreadSheet. Unlike traditional spreadsheets, data flows to the right and downward between adjacent cells. Cell behaviors can be defined and customized with Emacs Lisp. Applications are constructed by arranging and connecting cells of different types. Sheets are organized into an interlinked web.

Cell-mode combines ideas from dataflow languages like Miller Puckette’s PureData?, emacs packages like EevMode and from wikis.

For a quick introduction you shoud open cell.el and read the “Instructions for trying out” (missing as of 2007-11-01).

Load cell.el, download and rename cell-wiki-example.cell as cell-wiki.cell, enter in cell-mode and press ‘C-c C-r’.
