Overview

html-helper-mode is maintained by GianUbertoLauri?. It requires tempo.el (which comes with recent Emacs versions, see TempoMode).

It supports JSP (with PaulKinnucan’s JDE, see JavaDesktopEnvironment), PHP, and ASP (with VisualBasicMode installed). Some people like the way this mode handles indentation by default better than PSGML and the built-in HtmlMode (although any of them can be customized to support your kind of indentation; this is Emacs, after all).

Install

Installation – add this line in your .emacs:

 (autoload 'html-helper-mode "html-helper-mode" "Yay HTML" t)

To invoke html-helper-mode automatically on .html files, do this:

 (setq auto-mode-alist (cons '("\\.html$" . html-helper-mode) auto-mode-alist))

To invoke html-helper-mode automatically on .asp files, do this:

 (setq auto-mode-alist (cons '("\\.asp$" . html-helper-mode) auto-mode-alist))

To invoke html-helper-mode automatically on .phtml files, do this:

 (setq auto-mode-alist (cons '("\\.phtml$" . html-helper-mode) auto-mode-alist))

Notes

Note : with Emacs 22, auto-mode-alist is useless and you will need to modify similarly magic-mode-alist. Try C-h v auto-mode-alist to learn more.

… or you can disable magic-mode-alist with (setq magic-mode-alist ()) before the autoload line, then auto-mode-alist works – SewerynKokot.

[mike@theoretic.com] If you get an error about html-tag-face in XEmacs, alter the line (1710) that says

  (set-face-foreground html-tag-face "dodger blue")))

to

  (set-face-foreground 'html-tag-face "dodger blue")))

Is anything done with this mode to meet html5?
