Conkeror is a Mozilla based web browser whose design is largely inspired by Emacs, notwithstanding a few unique features of its own for dealing with those problems unique to the domain of gui web browsing. It embraces a prime directive to make every aspect of web browsing available via keyboard control. For more information, visit

If you are not using any of the standard window managers in Linux then you may be required to set Conkeror as your default browser manually.

(setq browse-url-generic-program (executable-find "conkeror"))
(setq browse-url-browser-function 'browse-url-generic)

Likewise in any of the non-standard window managers, if you wish to use eww (web browser newly included in 24.4) as the default, with Conkeror as the external browser (triggered with “&” in eww) then use the following:

(setq browse-url-browser-function 'eww-browse-url) ; use eww as default browser
(setq browse-url-generic-program (executable-find "conkeror")
	shr-external-browser 'browse-url-generic)
