makeinfo-info.el augments Emacs builtin makeinfo.el so when makeinfo-buffer (C-c C-m C-b in texinfo-mode) processes a Texinfo file it’s displayed using InfoMode instead of a raw buffer.

The effect is a fast formatted preview of how the texinfo comes out. Emacs 22 has adopted this feature, but makeinfo-info.el adds further support for a TeX-master variable for multi-file documents there.

Incidentally, Emacs has makeinfo-options set to "--fill-column=70", overriding the default fill of 72 for the makeinfo program. You might want to remove that so you get the same in or out of Emacs,

    (setq makeinfo-options "")

or of course set it to options you’re using in your Makefile or
